Color & Printing

What is CMYK?

CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (Black). This is the standard color model for full color printing. All commercial printing uses these four ink colors to create the full spectrum of colors you see in print.

What is 4 Color Process Printing?

Four color process is the method of using CMYK color inks to create full color printed images. By printing microscopic halftone dots using only these four colors, we create the illusion of millions of colors.

What is 4/4, 4/1, and 4/0?

4/4 Full color printing (CMYK) on both sides
4/1 Full color on front, black only on back
4/0 Full color on front, blank back

File Setup

What is a crop area?

A crop area is the location where the final artwork will be cut. The crop area can vary slightly, so the content of a print design should be kept within a text safe area (typically 1/8" from the edge).

What is a bleed?

A bleed is the amount of space that extends beyond the crop area of the item being printed. This extra printing area allows the printed design to go all the way to the edges of the paper without any white borders.

What are your bleed requirements?

If you're setting up your own artwork, please provide a bleed of at least 1/8th of an inch (0.125") on all sides.

💡 Pro Tip: Keep all important text and logos at least 1/8" inside the trim line to ensure they don't get cut off.

Coatings & Finishes

What is Glossy UV Coating?

Glossy UV coating is a protective coating applied after printing. This coating gives a slick, wet look to the eye and feels smooth to the touch. It also provides excellent protection against fingerprints and smudges.

What is Matte Coating?

Matte coating is similar to glossy coating in that it's applied after printing, but it has a dull or silk finish. Many people prefer matte for a more sophisticated, professional look. It's also easier to write on.
